- Educational Project | Centennial Regional High School
Educational Project The Educational Project of Centennial Regional High School promotes the active participation of all partners in the development of our students’ skills, confidence and ethic to contribute in a meaningful and diversified manner to present and future society. Values: Celebration of Diversity As students, staff and parents, our differences in cultures, religions, learning styles, interests and aptitudes make us a unique, interesting and stronger community. These mirror the real world. We celebrate our diversity. Development of the Well-rounded Student To enable all students to achieve their potential as responsible, vital and contributing members of society, we actively support their intellectual, personal and social development. Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle In order to promote respect for self and encourage the development of lifelong positive habits, we provide information and guidance designed to help students make well-informed, healthy choices regarding nutrition, personal health and physical activity. Personalization of the Student’s Educational Experience In order to address the needs and interests of individual students, and to ensure that each student has a sense of belonging, feeling ‘at home’ and being involved, we take a personalized approach to every aspect of school organization. (e.g. Hand-timetabling for all Middle School students; assignment of Core Teachers in Middle School; provision of support services for students at all grade levels; placement in classes at appropriate level of challenge; follow-up and intervention by Administration, etc.) Inclusion of All Members of the School Community We welcome all students as equal and contributing members of our school community and encourage them to take full advantage of all the opportunities available. Preparation for Life Beyond High School Through demonstrating the relevance between ‘school learning’ and ‘Real World’ requirements, and by teaching valuable life skills, we help prepare students for life beyond high school. We emphasize the development of essential ‘literacy’ skills including reading skills, reading appreciation, media literacy, consumer literacy, etc. Innovation and Responsiveness in Our Pedagogy In order to provide the best possible learning opportunities to our students, and in keeping on the cutting edge of educational practices, our faculty is dedicated to exploring and refining new pedagogical approaches. Our programing is rigorous, challenging, and addresses the needs and interests of our community. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the wide variety of opportunities in the academic courses, Creative and Performing Arts, and Athletics. Respect In order to maintain a harmonious learning and working atmosphere, we promote respect for self, for others and for the school environment. To this end, we have developed a comprehensive set of policies and procedures, outlined in the C.R.H.S. Student Agenda, which includes the expectations of the school and school board regarding student conduct. Partnership The successful education of our students depends upon the partnership of home, school and the students themselves, with all members working in a collaborative manner and fulfilling their respective responsibilities. To realize the goals of our Educational Project, we promote open communication, active participation of all partners and the maintenance of a safe and secure environment.

- Arts | Centennial Regional High School
Arts Visual Arts: Students at Centennial enjoy access to many visual arts activities and events such as Urban Art crew, mural wall painting, and the ArtWorks festival. Centennial's Urban Art Crew is a group of graffiti artists and other artists (with a unique artistic style) that are into urban art (it's more than just graffiti) . They paint murals and canvases. They get to work with a professional artist. ArtWorks Festival promotes careers in all Art disciplines to senior students (especially grade 10). Students get to interact with professional artists through workshops (Dancers, actors, painters, DJ's, etc.). "Color Me Happy" is CRHS art club; selected artists get together to work on various art projects (murals, cards, posters, etc). Performing Arts: JUNIOR PLAY The CRHS Junior Play is performed in March by our talented students in Secondary 1, 2 and 3. An original production written by Ms. Lesley Webb and directed by Ms. Lesley Webb and Ms. Debbie Edayanjilil, it is always a crowd-pleaser! SENIOR PLAY We have wrapped up the 2017 Senior Play: 21 and the audience loved it! Well done to our Sec. 4 & 5 actors and to Ms. Joyce, Ms. Marriott and Mr. Jude. Music: The music program at Centennial Regional High School offers students the opportunity to select an instrument and learn how to play music. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced level player, all students will have the opportunity to learn how to play and develop their skill level throughout their high school experience. Our music program has something for everyone. These options include: Concert and jazz band where students can play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument; The pop/rock stream which includes guitar, bass, piano, drums, and vocals; Electronic music where students will learn the development of digital sound using circuitry based music software and technology; Students can also choose to participate in Vocal Instruction Tech, where they will receive coaching and learn proper singing, breathing, and harmonizing technique. Not only will music students learn how to play, but also how to express themselves through music. They’ll learn how to read music notation as well as the rudiments of music theory and ear training. Class time is spent developing their playing skills and working towards the end-of-year concert where they get to showcase their talent and hard work for family and friends to see. In addition to the end-of-year music show, beginner-level and advanced students have many opportunities to perform outside of class time through various school shows and extracurricular activities. This includes out-of-school competitions like Glee Club, MusicFest and community performances, for those who choose to participate. My door is always open at lunchtime for students who wish to practice, form bands, get additional instruction, or for those who are simply looking for a safe, fun, and friendly environment to spend their lunch hour. It’s a great opportunity to make new friends and to learn a skill to carry with you forever. Everyone is welcome! If you are interested in what our music program has to offer, check out the links below from Centennial Regional High School’s YouTube channel, where you can see performances from previous years’ Music Shows. For more information, please contact music specialist Ms. Barrasso at abarrasso@rsb.qc.ca
