Exploring Geometric Solids

As we close in on the end of the 2008-2009 school year, several Mathematics courses are finishing up their Geometry units by exploring solid figures.

In Ms. Heckersbruch's Secondary III class, students were engaged in creating mobiles using 3-dimensional figures. Each group was asked to choose a theme and create a mobile of solids whose volumes and surface areas were within a given range assigned by the teacher. The resulting projects decorated the classroom during term 3:

In Miss Wheeler's class, our student teacher, Miss Perks led students through an exploration of the nets of different solids by providing students with physical models of each solid. Students were asked to draw the net for each solid, and then verify their predictions using the physical models.

ACCESS to the Future

Occasionally students graduate from high school missing a college program’s entrance requirement course. ACCESS, the Continuing Education Centre of Riverside School Board, offers a range of academic courses at the Secondary III to V levels. Contact ACCESS at (450) 676-1843 or www.access.rsb.qc.ca for further information. Students may explore their vocational programs, as well.

La classe de Mme Houle est la championne en titre. Kevin H., Nicolas S., Robert K. et Jake M. sauront-ils défendre le trophée des Génies?

C'est ce que nous saurons en mars car le tournoi annuel des Génies en herbe est de retour après les vacances de la relâche.

La première ronde du tournoi se déroulera durant les classes de français. Chaque classe devra désigner ses 4 meilleurs élèves afin d'affronter les autres classes du même niveau.

Puis le tournoi se transportera à la bibliothèque durant le lunch. Une victoire vous permet de passer en ronde suivante. Une défaite vous éliminera.
