>>Exploring Geometric Solids
As we close in on the end of the 2008-2009 school year, several Mathematics courses are finishing up their Geometry units by exploring solid figures.
In Ms. Heckersbruch’s Secondary III class, students were engaged in creating mobiles using 3-dimensional figures. Each group was asked to choose a theme and create a mobile of solids whose volumes and surface areas were within a given range assigned by the teacher. The resulting projects decorated the classroom during term 3:
In Miss Wheeler’s class, our student teacher, Miss Perks led students through an exploration of the nets of different solids by providing students with physical models of each solid. Students were asked to draw the net for each solid, and then verify their predictions using the physical models.
