>>Making the Transition from Elementary to High School

18 September 2008
This is a very important transition…one that is of great concern to many students and parents. What do we do at Centennial Regional High School to help make this change as seamless as possible? We’re so glad you asked!

Middle School

At Centennial, students move from Grade 6 into MIDDLE SCHOOL, a special program for Grades 7 and 8. In Middle School, each student is hand timetabled in order to place him/ her with the Core (Homeroom) Teacher and group of students with whom s/he will be most comfortable. This is based on interests and needs. We learn about each student through our Liaison Meetings with the Grade 6 teachers in the Spring. The Core Teacher instructs the same group of students for more than one subject; the Core Class stays together for several subjects. In many cases, students in Grade 7 have fewer teachers than they had in Grade 6!

We invite students and parents to Open House in the Fall. This is a great way to see the school and learn about the many opportunities that are offered at CRHS.

Centennial Activities

Over the course of their Grade 6 year, students are invited to many special events at Centennial: e.g. the Senior Play, the Follies (Talent Show), dance productions, the Centennial Grade 6 Sports Jamboree (November 30th) and the Centennial Annual Elementary Hockey Tournament (November 30th)
